Novena to Jesus of Nazareth
(To make this Novena, if possible, recite the following prayers in a Church, or before an image of Jesus of Nazareth. Try to go to at least one Confession and frequent communion during the course of nine consecutive days or each day if done on nine consecutive Fridays.)
THE SIGN OF THE CROSS
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
ACT OF CONTRITION
Iriga City, Philippines
O Jesus Christ, my Lord, true God, and true Man, my great Redeemer; with the sublime love which You did profess for humankind, and for which You did suffer humiliations and experience all sorts of trials and tribulations since Your capture by the soldiers led by Judas Iscariot, and during Your painful journey to Calvary; walking with a heavy cross on Your shoulders, as a penitent creature of God, I should appreciate Your supreme sacrifice; Your death on the cross to redeem the world and hereby promise to love You ever more.
Referring to You, St. John said, “Greater love has no man than this that He lay down His life for His friends.”
In as much as I love you above all things, I repent with all my heart and soul for having committed sins against You. I firmly resolve, with the help of Your Grace to sin no more and to avoid the occasions of sin. So help me, I beseech You Jesus Christ, to do penance, and give me courage to follow You in Your dolorous way of the Cross.
Fifth Day or Fifth Friday
Jesus Christ was helped by Cyrene. He got tired and was about to collapse that He could not rise any longer and much less walk when Cyrenian helped Jesus to carry His cross. He assisted the Lord and walked behind Him and followed. The cross was heavy that made gashes on the Lord’s shoulders, but He had to carry the heave instrument of torture. He should pay the cost for redeeming mankind.
Jesus was on the point of expiring and might die on His way when Simon was picked to assist Him.
Meditation
To run to the aid of Jesus Christ in ‘carrying His cross was a great honor, for it was part in the salvation of mankind. This role of Simon was very important. We ourselves can do this part in many ways. Whenever we commit grave sins, we can rise and reform immediately; when temptation come to us, we can accept the challenge by taking control of ourselves and courageously fighting them.
Resolution for the Day
More than a Simon Cyrene, I promise to help You carry the Cross my Lord Jesus and also help my fellowmen. So help me, I beseech You, to keep my resolutions and not to give up trying, even I break any of them sometimes.
Prayer
O Jesus Christ, give me grace at least to accompany You on the way to Calvary and make me worthy to bear Your cross of adversities in order that by doing so. I am led to everlasting life and happiness. Help me to feel sorry for my sins, increase my love for You, my Redeemer, who art infinitely good to me; in order not to forget You in all my undertakings.

CONCLUDING PRAYER
O Almighty God, who have appointed Your only begotten Son the Savior of the World; many times I have improperly abandoned You, but after duly repenting for having offended You, now on my knees I come to offer You to say that I adore You with all fervor and devotion. So please forgive me for my sins and omissions; and grant me grace, I beseech You, my omnipotent God, so that I may enjoy the blessing and Glory of Heaven where Your Son Jesus live and reign with You in unity of the Holy spirit, world without end. Amen

CONCLUDING PRAYER
O MY SOUL, GREAT TRUTH; YOUR SALVATION MUST BE A MOST IMPORTANT AFFAIR; IF THE SON OF GOD HAD TO DIE TO THE CROSS FOR IT; AND IF THE MOST INNOCENT JESUS WAS THUS SCOURGED FOR THE SINS OF OTHERS, WHAT WILL BE THE PUNISHMENT IN HELL FOR OUR SIN, SO NUMEROUS AND COMMITTED WITH MALICE? O JESUS CRUCIFIED, BE MY SALVATION.
O MARY, MOTHER OF THE DIVINE REDEEMER, HOW GREAT IS THE GOODNESS OF JESUS TOWARD US, AND WE UNGRATEFUL FOR SUCH GOODNESS HAVE NOT ONLY SHOWN HIM LITTLE LOVE IN RETURN, BUT HAVE ALSO OFTEN TIME REOPENED HIS WOUNDS. PRAY FOR US THAT WE MAY DESPISE SUCH INGRATITUDE.
