Jesus the Son of God
Even before such questions are laid to rest with the grace of faith, miracle points us to the answers and prepare our minds to accept the truth.
Not that we are always so accepting. Scripture offers many cautionary tests about people who rejected great supernatural signs of God (Exudos 7:8-13; John 11:46-53; Acts 16:16-24). Still, for those with eyes to see, miracles illuminate and invite belief in deeper realities. Beyond their very real, amazing externals, they have symbolic meaning. Miracles reveal the very nature of God.
God Feeds 5000 People
The miracles of Elijah underline God’s sovereignty – especially highlighted in the story of Elijah’s contest with the pagan prophets. They also reveal God’s compassion – as shown to “little people” like the starving widow and her son (see l Kings 17:17-24). But the best examples of “miracles with a message” are the ones Jesus worked on. Astounding in themselves, they reveal His mission and authenticate Him as the Son of God.
He feeds multitudes – a sign that He is the Bread of Life. He calmed and walked the sea, signifying that He rules the universe.
Jesus heals the lepers and blind
Jesus heals lepers and the blind – a sign that He comes to cure spiritual blindness and the leprosy of sin.
And in every miracle, Jesus shows a compassionate God who loves His people in a very personal way.
Still, today our loving God uses miracles to draw us to Himself. Take healings, for example, perhaps the most spectacular of these inventions. But on a smaller scale, too. God provides countless signs of His presence.
Jesus is the Body and Blood
For one woman on chemotherapy, this assurance took the form of a Scripture verse that she happened on “by chance” one morning, just after she realized that her hair was falling: “Even the hairs of your head are all accounted,” she read and started to cry (Matthew 10:30). “I felt God’s love so strong at the moment, as I realized that He cares about every little aspect of my life.”
Personal, everyday miracles like this may be the most persuasive of all.
The Miracle Prayer
Lord Jesus, I come before Thee, just as I am, I am sorry for my sins, I repent of my sins, please forgive me. In Thy Name, I forgive all others for what they have done against me. I renounce Satan, the evil spirits and all their works. I give Thee, my entire self, Lord Jesus, I accept Thee as my Lord God and Savior. Heal me, change me, strengthen me in body, soul, and spirit.
Come, Lord Jesus, cover me with Thy Precious Blood, and fill me with Thy Holy Spirit, I love Thee, Lord Jesus, I praise Thee, Lord Jesus, I thank Thee Jesus, I shall follow Thee every day of my life. Amen.
Mary, My Mother, Queen of Peace, all the Angels and Saints, please help me. Amen.
