Novena to Jesus of Nazareth
(To make this Novena, if possible, recite the following prayers in a Church, or before an image of Jesus of Nazareth. Try to go to at least one Confession and frequent communion during the course of nine consecutive days or each day if done on nine consecutive Fridays.)
THE SIGN OF THE CROSS
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
ACT OF CONTRITION

O Jesus Christ, my Lord, true God, and true Man, my great Redeemer; with the sublime love which You did profess for humankind, and for which You did suffer humiliations and experience all sorts of trials and tribulations since Your capture by the soldiers led by Judas Iscariot, and during Your painful journey to Calvary; walking with a heavy cross on Your shoulders, as a penitent creature of God, I should appreciate Your supreme sacrifice; Your death on the cross to redeem the world and hereby promise to love You ever more.
Referring to You, St. John said, “Greater love has no man than this that He lay down His life for His friends.”
In as much as I love you above all things, I repent with all my heart and soul for having committed sins against You. I firmly resolve, with the help of Your Grace to sin no more and to avoid the occasions of sin. So help me, I beseech You Jesus Christ, to do penance, and give me courage to follow You in Your dolorous way of the Cross.
Third Day or Third Friday
Jesus fell under His Cross; still, He had no alternative but to continue His journey. He was then treated with more cruelty than a slave. He was crowned with thorns whose pains He suffered and felt through His smallest veins, His flesh was even torn by the scourges. He lost a great quantity of His precious blood which weakened Him; coupled with inhumanity of the violent soldiers that He could hardly walk, thereby causing Him to fall several times in His journey.
Meditation
It was not the weight of the Cross nor the pain of the thorns but our sins that made You suffer so much torment. You were not permitted to rest even for a single moment. The brutal soldiers did not get tired of whipping and striking You. They perpetrated cruelties, indignities, and injustices, in response to Your preaching and compliance with Your mission of saving humanity. You did live, love mankind, and suffered for the sinners. We in turn should express sorrow for your sufferings, and at the same time show gratitude to You for Your goodness, not only in words but especially in deeds.
O merciful Jesus, help us to ponder always on Your Passion to overcome temptations, and thus be reminded to love You above all things.
Resolution for the Day
Recalling Your fall beneath the Cross, if and when I fall into sin, I’ll try to rise at once and be restored to grace through the sacrament of confession.
Prayer
O Jesus Christ, I am heartily Sorry for my sins and of Your favors bestowed me although unmerited. I kneel before Your altar, willing to repair by an act of homage, and fervently hope for Your grace and aid, grant me strength. I beseech You Jesus, to conquer my weaknesses so that I may not forget You and thus avoid the commission of sins.

CONCLUDING PRAYER
O Almighty God, who have appointed Your only begotten Son the Savior of the World; many times I have improperly abandoned You, but after duly repenting for having offended You, now on my knees I come to offer You to say that I adore You with all fervor and devotion. So please forgive me for my sins and omissions; and grant me grace, I beseech You, my omnipotent God, so that I may enjoy the blessing and Glory of Heaven where Your Son Jesus live and reign with You in unity of the Holy spirit, world without end. Amen

CONCLUDING PRAYER
O MY SOUL, GREAT TRUTH; YOUR SALVATION MUST BE A MOST IMPORTANT AFFAIR; IF THE SON OF GOD HAD TO DIE TO THE CROSS FOR IT; AND IF THE MOST INNOCENT JESUS WAS THUS SCOURGED FOR THE SINS OF OTHERS, WHAT WILL BE THE PUNISHMENT IN HELL FOR OUR SIN, SO NUMEROUS AND COMMITTED WITH MALICE? O JESUS CRUCIFIED, BE MY SALVATION.
O MARY, MOTHER OF THE DIVINE REDEEMER, HOW GREAT IS THE GOODNESS OF JESUS Towards US, AND WE UNGRATEFUL FOR SUCH GOODNESS HAVE NOT ONLY SHOWN HIM LITTLE LOVE IN RETURN, BUT HAVE ALSO OFTEN TIME REOPENED HIS WOUNDS. PRAY FOR US THAT WE MAY DESPISE SUCH INGRATITUDE.
